Coal Seam Research is built so that educational content is usable by as many readers as possible, on any device.

Our approach

We aim to meet the spirit of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines at level AA. Accessibility is treated as part of design and editing rather than as a later correction.

Measures in place

  • Semantic HTML structure with a single H1 per page and a logical heading order.
  • Text and interface colours chosen for contrast against their backgrounds in both light and dark themes.
  • Full keyboard navigation with a visible focus indicator on every interactive element.
  • A skip link that jumps directly to the main content.
  • Descriptive alternative text on informative images.
  • Accessible names on buttons, expandable questions and the theme control.
  • Responsive typography and layout that reflow without horizontal scrolling on small screens.
  • Reduced-motion support: animation is suppressed when your system requests it.

Known limitations

Some illustrative graphics convey mood rather than data; their alternative text describes purpose rather than every visual detail. Where a concept is illustrated visually, the surrounding text always explains it in full so no information is available only in an image.

Theme and readability

A light and dark theme are both available from the header control, and your choice is remembered on your own device. Both themes are tested for legible contrast between text and background.
